Kinda strange; good at this priceReviewed by Iceman from N Utah Mountains on Thursday, November 14, 2024I have quite a few Filson items (waxed down cruiser parka, waxed down cruiser, mackinaw cruiser, Patreos jacket, etc…) and this one is just… OK. It’s pretty warm, but the cut and design is a little strange: the placket is offset to one side and there is only one external chest pocket.
The sleeves are SHORT. If you don’t intend to wear gauntlet type gloves, expect your arms to be exposed above the wrist. None of my other Filson coats are like this. The elastic wrist cuffs are quite good, as are all the fittings.
Coat is good for about 10-15F over a t shirt, and the materials seem to be fine. The build quality is good, and the hand warmer pockets are good too.
If you can afford to spring for the waxed cruiser parka (and if you’re worried about wetter weather) - maybe skip this one.
If you have shorter arms and you’re not worried about wet weather… this may be the best bang for your buck out there. -

I am always between sizes of a large and medium I sized up so I could layer under it. I knew the body was going to be big, but with the cinch strings across the body and the bottom of the jacket, it wasn’t bad. But I was shocked about the over all sleeve length. I’m 5’11” and they are short on me. Not sure how Filson got this one so wrong.

I got the L in the Chilkoot Parka. Fit just like you would expect an enormous sleeping bag to fit. Maybe I'll order the Med...
